Team Charlotte Rippingale, Atlanta Chambers, Leah Smith, Casey Jay Ribchester, Leah Tierney, Jade Woodburn, Olivia Stewart, Casey Royle
Second game and now our first victory. Everyone and I mean everyone was outstanding today. We battled for every ball we chased back we tackled and we passed the ball. A team is now emerging that can work for each other.
The game started off very evenly with both teams finding it hard to break through very strong defences. Both keepers when called into action made good saves. AGSA started to get controll of the game after 25 minutes but Charlotte in goals kept them at bay, saves with her feet, body, bum, legs and occasionally her hands kept the ball out of our net. It didn't matter how she saved it, it just mattered that she saved it.
The second half started much as the first had finished but after 10 minutes we broke down the right and Casey Jay fired home. AGSA then started all out attack. For 10 minutes we couldn't get out of our penalty box. But strong defending and luck kept AGSA at bay. After 25 minutes AGSA got the equaliser after a scramble in the box. Our girls spurred on by a fantastic support set about restoring the lead and Jade took off on a solo run to slot home the winner with 5 minutes left to play.
Onto personnel performances. Leah Smith and Atlanta at the back were outstanding. Tackling back and never giving up. Without their performances we could have lost by several goals. Olivia, Leah T and CJ in midfield battled all day, helping out in defence and attack. They all sometimes got caught out of position but worked hard to get back and take control of the game. Casey Royle was brilliant today. She covered every blade of grass on the pitch. Her chasing down of the ball was immense. Overall the best we have ever seen Casey play. Jade upfront battled away all day and created her own goal, a fantastic performance. Charlotte in goal was brilliant, saving shots with every part of her body, thoroughly deserving her double player of the match award.
Thanks go to Mike and the girls from AGSA for a fantastic day. We wish them the very best for the season and look forward to welcoming them to Sandy Lane.
