First game of the season played at Blacksnape, where there was a bit of confusion with two teams being booked for the same pitch, luckily the younger team agreed to switch to a smaller pitch.
The first 20 mins told us that Greyhound have improved their squad from last season with both sides keeping things tight at the back. A couple of good chances then came for Matt Fay but the keeper managed to save the attempts. On the half hour mark Lee Hargreaves fed a ball over the top for Fay to run onto and this time he slotted past the keeper to put us 1-0 up at half time.
H-t 1-0
The second half was played with the wind against us so we knew we would have to defend strongly. Unfortunately with around 10mins gone of the second half we left an attacker free at the far post and he put an easy header away for the equalizer. We brushed ourselves down though and got on top creating regular chances as the Greyhound defence played very square at the back. With 20 mins left Hargreaves fed Mitchell Smith and he beat the defender who attempted to clear off the line, to put us 2-1 up. We were the stronger side and continued to create chances but could not take any to give us the breathing space we needed. With a couple of minutes to go we paid the price when a ball over the top of our defence allowed their forward in to lift his shot over Reece Eccles in our goal. A sucker punch and a disappointing end to a fairly solid display. We must learn from this and take our chances when they come along in order to relieve the defence of pressure.
F-t 2-2
MOM Liam Holden for a solid display at the back.
