Helping manage this team has been a really frustrating experience this season-it has got to the stage were baz and myself do not know which darwen rangers are turning up.So the prospect of playing the potential champions, who completely outclassed us at home-with only 11 men available was a daunting one!
But before you start thinking "here we go-another one of wallys scathing match reports" think again-cause what clitheroe wolves didn't expect was coming up against 11 lions!!
The lads to a man did us proud today-right from the kick off-we pressed and pressured clitheroe who must have thought they were in for an easy three points-but clitheroe did play some nice football and it was this nice football that cut us open and gave them the lead-but in my opinion this was against the run of play.
The lads battled on and after some great work in midfield the ball was threaded through to bailey who finished well 1-1.
Throughout the whole game we were the better side and even the most ardent clitheroe fan must have seen we were more hungry than they were-but they can play a bit and just before half time they countered after one of our attacks broke down and scored a well worked second goal.-half time 2-1.
I could see the determination of the lads during the half time team talk-they were up for it and after pilling on the pressure during the early stages of the second half,we got our reward-maca kicked a great ball out to the right hand side which bailey picked up and ran down the wing-he got to the by line and was challenged but as he went down managed to square a great ball into the box were matt was waiting and he finished well 2-2.
After that both teams had great chances to take the lead but it was settled after more great work in midfield-the ball was fed out to the right hand side were a good pass freed matt who scored his second and settled the game-final score 2-3.
An absolutely great performance lads-we are really proud today-that is what its all about-you know how we work- the performance is everything and today you all delivered in spades-but i'll finish like i started-to see you play today like you did and compare it to other matches theres just no consistency and this has been the story of our season-had we played all season like we played today we would without a doubt be challenging for the title!!
But hey-lets enjoy today-what a result!!
remember-"the futures bright,the futures blue"
(Jason Wallace).
