Firstly thanks must go to the girls from Gt Harwood, Andy Counsell and Andy Shuttleworth for agreeing to these matches.
Darwen started off the first half of the 7 v 7 match with 4 under 10's playing their first match for the club. We also put CJ in nets for a change and to give us some back bone Atlanta and Leah S played in defence. Gt Harwood started off with several new players but all eligible to play at U12. Darwen battled away throughout the half with great performances from all the U10 girls. Gt Harwood took the lead with just 5 mins of the first half remaining, just as our girls started to tire. Second half saw our regular U12 team with 1 U10 girl take on a full strength Gt Harwood side. The bigger pitch made for open football with some great free flowing play. Gt Harwood were stronger in most departments but Darwen battled well.
In the 9 v 9 match we put out the U12 girls with 3 U10 girls playing in midfield. Again Gt Harwood put out a strong squad. The first half was very even with Darwen creating some chances but failing to find the final touch. Gt Harwood went in 1 up. CJ went in nets again for 10 mins, and giving a great account of herself. Second half saw Darwen start to tire and Gt Harwood take control of the match to eventually came out 3 – 0 winners.
Just a few mentions CJ in goals and attack gave her all today. Leah S and Atlanta ran tackled and encouraged like real troopers. Beth B, Beth M, Maisie and Ocean should all be proud of their performances today especially against girls 2 years older and against a team that has been together for 2 years.
7 v 7 match 0 - 2 9 v 9 match 0 - 3
