| Notes: |
A very encouraging start for the Lads today facing probably one of the stronger teams in the league. Despite being pressed back for a lot of the first half and having the Lower Darwen wind against them they held out well. On a few occasions there was some exciting and even desperate defending but defending it was and the job was done. The defence and supporting midfielders managed to restrict Mill Hill to mostly long range shots. Mill Hill proved dangerous at corner kicks with most cleared including an incredible header off the line by Anthony Scott stopping a certain goal. Despite being pressed back Rangers did break out and create some chances which were saved by the Mill Hill keeper. The goal eventually came there was a bit of good fortune as the wind helped guide it into the net meaning Rangers went in at half-time losing 1-0.
The second half was to lend a phrase a half of two halves as Mill Hill started the stronger and it took a while for Rangers to get into their stride. A lot defending was required and some near misses and god interceptions kept the score at 1-0. In time though Mill Hill went into a 3-0 lead with goals which included a goal direct from a free kick. The Lads head didn’t go down and they started to put a bit of bite and determination into their tackling. Rangers started to have more of the possession and started to threaten the Mill Hill goal. Eventually a goal came from a cracking free-kick from just outside the area from Elliot Whalley celebrated in only the way that Elliot can! More good play and good pass here or there may have resulted in another goal. If the Lads can start as they finish they will be winning more games than they lose this season.
