Team:- macaulay scott ethan potter jaden hammond joe swarbrick jordan hepple ieuan skelton tom scanlon rob jeffers luke donelley bailey wallace matt gillet Subs:- alex boothman james halsall The match was overshadowed by a serious injury to tom scanlon during the later stages of the game-tom has suffered a broken wrist and has undergone surgery today to have pins put in place. After seeing the injury first hand and speaking to his dad today it is clear that tom is likely to miss a majority of this season-it goes without saying that the entire squad, dan, myself and everyone connected with darwen rangers wishes tom a speedy recovery. Our oppenents last night were last seasons champions-crown paints gold,i watched this team at the end of last season and was very impressed-i also read the stats on the final red league table for last season-this is not a team to be taken lightly. The lads knew this though and spirit in the camp was good despite sundays result. Just like sunday our lads made a good account of themselves during the opening period-keeping their shape and frustrating crown, but after a sluggish start the champions started to kick into gear and after some great movement a crown player was one on one with macca who came out to meet the player, went to ground, was rounded and then conceeded a penalty for a foul in the box-actually he was lucky to stay on,but i'm glad he did cause he pulled off a fantastic save-typical macca, villain to hero in 30 seconds! Actually macca deserves a special mention, cause he was superb last night-the score could have been double had he not been between the sticks. This didn't deflate crown however and they were soon on the score sheet,a fortunate 2nd goal followed, and we gave them a gift of a goal for their 3rd. half time 3-0 The second half continued in a similar vein, with crowns domination almost total, their quality allowed them to pull us all over the pitch and exploite the gaps we were leaving-but credit to our lads you could see they were trying-in the end we were beaten by a better side who have lots of experience in this league. full-time7-0. This season, the lads are facing more competative teams, stronger, taller and faster players who are more physical in the challenge-it is going to take a while to adjust and there will be more pain to go through-but we will get through it!!! Heads up-we go into battle again on sunday! "the only way is up!"
