| Notes: |
Our first outing of the season saw us facing a strong, physical Ossy Rangers team, but we had nothing to fear.
Andy led the Boys out onto the pitch today, in sunny but very windy conditions. We lost the toss and unfortunately found ourself kicking into the wind first half. We all hoped that the lads would put into practice everything that we have been working hard on in training, and they certainly didn't let us down. We dominated the first ten minutes of the game and passed the ball around, moved into space, talked, and talked, and talked, and continued to talk and encourage throughout the game. This is not something we have been used to in past games, but it was great to see. Jordan Yates was to get our first goal 15 minutes in with a great shot from outside the area, leaving their goalkeeper no chance of saving it. Jack Marsden, not to be outdone followed shortly after with our second cracking long distance effort which nestled in the top corner. The boys looked at ease passing the ball about and chasing it down when they lost possession. Each and every player on the pitch today gave everything they could, and thats all that can be asked of them. The wind eventually eased Ossy Rangers back in the game when they were awarded a free kick, just outside the penalty area. They shot and the wind carried the ball into the top corner of the net, which Cameron didn't really stand a chance of getting near. We were not going to let this change the game and were soon celebrating our third of the half when, after we were awarded a free kick way into our own half, Josh Aspinall knocked a great ball over the top for Captain Jordan Yates to connect with and he scored his second of the game.
Half Time Score D Rangers 3 - Ossy Rangers 1
We started the second half how we played in the first half, we never looked under threat, we looked calm on the ball, we were passing back if we needed to, the back four were playing some excellent stuff and with great communication between them were catching Ossy offside, with ease. Our fourth and last goal went to Jordan Yates for his well deserved hat-trick. To be fair, their goalie didnt stand a chance with any of our shots today, we were powerful, and as he was only quite short, we capitalised on this and shot high and wide giving him little chance of saving any of them. On another day we could have doubled our score, with a few scrappy chances in the opposition area being wasted, but it was not to be.
Full Time Score D Rangers 4 - Ossy Rangers 1
Man of the Match awarded by Ossy Rangers was Hat-trick hero Jordan Yates, Well Done Yatesie!!
Special mentions today: Cameron in goal was brilliant, he knocked a couple of Ossy Rangers efforts onto the bar, and commanded his area. His goal kicks were quality, a great display of goalkeeping today.
The Back four, Bradley, Josh Aspinall, Reece and Tom, you were outstanding today. This is a new line up in the back four, but you wouldn't know that from their game play. There was lots of talking between you all today, which im sure made your jobs much easier. You were not faised by the Ossy centre forwards, you were calm and distributed the ball from the back comfortably.
Our midfield of Jordan Yates, Jordan Rolfe, Matt and Jamaal controlled the game and were always their to help out the defence, if needed. You took control of the game today, instead of the opposition controlling it. Yatesie was involved all over the pitch and a hat-trick on the first game of the season is a great way to kick off the new season. Tackles were strong and you used your pace down the wings today.
Centre forwards Craig Robinson and Jack Marsden you were brilliant today. You used your strength and pace upfront and could have had a few more goals, with a bit more luck on your side. You chased back when we lost the ball, defending from the front.
Subs Aidan, Alex Slater and Ryan were all used in the second half and although they may have come on in positions they are not used to playing in, all three contributed to the end result.
Thanks go to all the parents who helped to put up, and take down the nets etc, and thanks to Iki for running the line for us.
We had lots of support today and the lads rose to the occassion and made each and every parent, Grandparent, Brother and Sister, and Andy, Paul and myself very, very proud of you all.
Well done, lets hope we get our next victory on Thursday.
